What data we collect
The data we collect is to perform a task in the public interest as set out in the part of this website headed ‘About’.
When administering book orders, ticket sales and (news) subscriptions, we collect and process the following data about you:
Contact details e.g. your name, email address, postal address and telephone number.
Payment information, such as credit/debit card numbers are collected in our shopping cart by Paypal pre-installed on the Moonfruit website which we use.
If you contact us, we may keep a record of that correspondence.
How do we collect this data?
YLP collects personal information in the following ways:
directly – from verbal or written input (for instance ordering books in response to emails or filling in an order form on a leaflet)
automatically – through YLP’s website which handles book orders and ticket sales.
YLP has access to Google Analytics to analyse web traffic.
Google Analytics stores information about:
the pages you visit on YLP
how long you spend on each YLP page
how you got to the site
what you click on while you’re visiting the site
This information is collected anonymously (we do not have your name or address) so this information cannot be used to identify who you are. It helps us to improve the site and our services.
Where will my data be stored?
Primarily on paper – postal book orders submitted (using one of our leaflets) or Paypal payment notifications which are printed and kept six years for accounting purposes.
Electronically, through the services of Paypal (we do not have access to financial details such as credit/debit card numbers) and Mailchimp which manages our mailing list.
What will YLP do with your data?
We use information held about you in the following ways to:
Electronically, to send you occasional book news and alerts to special events.
Handle orders, deliver products and communicate with you about orders. Process sales transactions and verify financial transactions.
Record contact YLP has with you
Prevent or detect fraud or abuses of our website and enable third parties to carry out technical, logistical or other functions on our behalf
Carry out future research on the demographics, interests and behaviour of our users and supporters to help YLP gain a better understanding of them and to enable us to improve our service. We may ask another company to do this work for us.
Communicate with our customers.
Record your attendance at events.
How long will my data be stored for?
If you have purchased books online or booked for one of our events, we will retain your personal information for accounting purposes and then destroy it. This means we will only hold your personal data for a maximum of 7 years.
If you have subscribed to our website to receive information about our activities, we will retain your data online until you unsubscribe.
Will my data be shared?
We will not share your data with anyone. We will not:
sell or rent your data to third parties
share your data with third parties for marketing purposes
However, we will share your data if we are required to do so by law – for example, by court order, or to prevent fraud or other crime.
What are my rights?
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679 gives you certain rights over your data and how YLP uses it. These include:
the right when appropriate to have inaccurate personal data rectified, blocked, erased or destroyed
the right to prevent your data being used for direct marketing
the right of access to a copy of the information YLP holds about you (known as a data subject access request)
the right to complain if you feel we have not processed your data according to the terms of the Act.

Accessing information YLP holds about you
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679 gives you the right to access information held about you. You can ask for any data we may hold on you by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org and we will respond within 28 days.
